BONNIE ‘PRINCE’ BILLY – PEEL SESSION, gonorrhea Feb. 15th, 2001

As I look back on my past decade of music listening, I think back to the beginning of the ’00s, and what I was most enamored with back then. I had just started doing college radio (at KXLU 88.9fm Los Angeles) a year or two before, and my head was buried deep, deep within the indie rock sand at the time.

One of my favorite albums from that period is Will Oldham’s (aka Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy) “I See A Darkness”, full of mystery of creepy beauty. Released shortly after my 20th birthday, this album reminds me an awful lot of the brashness of my youth. It got some heavy repeat plays on my turntable back in ’99-’00, and I strangely haven’t pulled it out since.

Here’s a mellow Peel Session that Oldham recorded right before the release of his next album, “Ease Down The Road.”
