I’m off to Europe tomorrow with my band for about six weeks. I’ll still be posting here, online though. Don’tcha worry — although it will be less frequent. I’ll be making up for that though, you’ll see.

VARIOUS ARTISTS – minimal synth compilations (part 1 of 7)

Back in the early days of file sharing, SOMEONE, don’t know who, put together a few fan compilations of early ’80s synth-driven stuff, and called the comps “The Return Of Flexipop”, in tribute to the early ’80s magazine called (of course) “Flexipop”. The issues of Flexipop came with flexidiscs containing a few tracks by the bands it covered, and these fan made comps were put together in the spirit of those original discs.

After the first few “Tribute” comps were floated around, other fans started making comps of their own to be shared, all with similar sounding titles like “Tribute To Flexipop”, “None Night of Flexipop”, “New Wave Complex”, and “Tribute To Some Bizarre” (a reference to the British record label Some Bizarre, and its influential 1981 compilation “Some Bizarre Album”.)

Various blogs over the years now have been posting these comps, but I’m going to try and be as complete as possible here (the one comp I’m missing is “Tribute To Some Bizarre #5″), also obviously without the annoyance of Rapidshare and the like. Over the next six weeks, I’ll be posting the lion’s share of these comps that I have in my collection, something over 40 in total! Also, it’s an excuse to post only once or twice a week, since I’m gonna be out of the country for a month or so, and don’t know when I’ll have regular access to the Web. Hope you like the slew of stuff!

Bands featured in this post here include: Snowy Red, Neon, Pink Industry, The Actor, Nocturnal Emissions, Crash Course In Science, Voice Farm, Xymox, Hysterica Passio, Gelatinous Citizens and more.

I used to hear a few of these tracks on the radiostream…great to have fresh mp3s of these tracks (with proper artist/track names) which I thought I might never hear again.

Happy touring. I think it is one of the most culturally fruitful ways to travel, even if your tour ends up being as dismal as some of the ones I have been on.
