TALKING HEADS

TALKING HEADS – 2 1/2 live sets (1978-83)

Has anyone ever taken a listen to that “No Talking, clinic Just Head” album from the mid-90s that Weymouth, this site Frantz and Harrison did without David Byrne fronting the band, try and various other people filling in? The album was credited to “The Heads”, and I don’t know if any of it is worth my time –

Also, the final set below, the Berkeley ’83 set, is not complete. I only managed to download half of it a few years ago, and never got around to retrieving the other half –

Talking Heads – Boarding House, San Francisco, 09.16.1978 (ZIP file)
Talking Heads – Sun Palace, Tokyo, Japan, 02.27.81 (ZIP file)
Talking Heads – Berkeley, CA – 09.02.83 (ZIP file)

Thanks. The Boarding House set is being grabbed asap…….. Lovely.

The No Talking Just Head album is a mixed bag. Papersnow with Andy Partridge is great. Along with Indie Hair, it’s probably the best track on the album… There are a lot of Tom Tom Club-style grooves, but some of the tracks go nowhere. The track with Michael Hutchence & No More Lonely Nights are horrible.

I enjoy the solo heads albums after 1980 a lot more than the straight Talking Heads material. I would have prferred they had broken up after their midlife crisis. I am particularly fond of “The Red & The Black,” which I find superior to all subsequent TH releases and in fact a valid followup to “Remain In Light.” Also the 2nd Tom Tom Club album is THE ONE for me. I have shied away from all solo Byrne material but would give “The Catherine Wheel” a good shot under the right conditions. But I’ve never been strongly motivated to check this out. Maybe it’s worth putting on my La La want list.

The Debbie, sorry DEBORAH Harry track is worth a listen too… but it’s best you don’t buy the album- I paid £2 for mine (about $3.50) and I consider myself ripped off!

Really liked the Heads album – Gordon Gano, Johnette Napolitano, Ed K from Live, lots of good tunes. Shame it didn´t get much good press at the time.
    Stay alive Robert

yeah the heads album, don’t waste your money. it has no direction. the songs are mostly lousy, have trouble getting anywhere, then they end. some of the songs just drip with potential, and they’re totally unrealized/ruined by the vocalist. original TH made a conscious effort to make each album its own unique work. this album cannot exist as a whole because there’s a different vocalist on every track. the band sounds canned on every track, as if its only there to support the vocalist, something which NEVER happened on real TH releases. there’s no life in it, just like the title says: no talking, just head. at least they didn’t lie.
