The set list on this date is almost identical to other sets of the same period, as documented on the ‘Dev-O Live’ EP (1981, later expanded by Rhino Handmade in 1999) and on the ‘Live 1980′ DVD. The soundboard recording is particularly good, and is marred only during the first track, when a Japanese DJ talks over the majority of ‘Freedom of Choice’.
The highlight of the set is a typically heavy version of ‘Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA’, a two-song suite that’s always made me marvel over Devo’s talents, since it sounds particularly difficult to pull off correctly in a live setting.
CHAVEZ – live somewhere, 1996
These guys were simply brainboiling. Their second and final album, “Ride The Fader” was CRIMINALLY overlooked. They recently got back together for a string of reunion dates. And I fukkin’ missed it; I probably had work that night or something. I can’t even remember what I did instead of seeing them live here in L.A.; how pathetic.
This live set has no song indexes or breaks — unfortunately, it’s just one long file.

THE POLICE – “Crimewatch: Live 1980″
I still haven’t seen any footage or heard any recordings of the new Police reunion. Anybody have any thoughts? I had the chance to buy an expensive ticket to see them at the Staples Center in L.A., but waffled and missed my chance.
