“ABC World News Tonight” soundtrack (1978)
For the life of me, I can’t remember where I got this from, but I just remembered I had it, so here ya go! The main theme on display here is as burned into my brain as the original NES “Super Mario Bros.” theme. Every time I hear it, I close my eyes and picture leather elbow patches, cigarette smoke and the Iran hostage crisis.
The main theme/fanfare is pretty straightforward, but some of the other tracks here are considerably funkier, and I can’t imagine they were used very much on-air, if at all. One of them even sounds like a redo of the theme by Goblin!

aside from the elbow patches, cig. smoke & hostage crisis, it’s the footage of the American flag ablaze somewhere surrounded by brown folks engaging in the time-honored tradition of “celebratory gunfire” that’s usually affixed to that music — not to mention “Koppel hair”.
Outstanding find … as usual!
If anyone cares, I believe that these were composed by the duo of Billy Arnell & Steve Loeb.
